In the beginning of the game, United seemed more dangerous in front of the goal, creating some chances by Martial and Fosu-Mensah. United was pressing high, and winning the ball really quick, they didn't even let Tottenham get out of their own half for a few minutes. Slowly Spurs is balancing the game and creating some chances, first Eriksen tried and then after de Gea's mistake Lamela had a golden opportunity but somehow he heads it wide. After Tottenham's dominating for a period, the game gone flat for the last part of the first half.
In the second half it was Spurs who had chance again and tested de Gea, first by Eriksen's shot and then Dier's, but the spanish goalkeeper saved both times. It didn't take too long and Lloris also was tested by Martial, but he also saved. It took 70 minutes to open the scoresheet, it was Alli who didn't miss this time from close range. After another 4 minutes Spurs scored again, Alderweireld headed in after a Lamela free kick. In the 76th minute Lamela scored also after United's awful defending. The game was decided in just 6 minutes.
Both teams are out of European competitions and they concentrate on the Premier League. Tottenham lie in 2nd place, trying to catch leaders Leicester City, but it is unlikely.
Next round, Manchester United will host last placed Aston Villa, while Tottenham will play against Stoke City at Britannia Stadium.
