Real Madrid had a perfect start to the game, being motivated by the first leg's defeat, they played much better, pressing high and getting the ball back early, not giving the chance Wolfsburg to be dangerous. The high pressing payed out, in the 16th minute Cristiano Ronaldo scored for 1-0, Carjaval providing the assist. Then after just 1 minute, Ronaldo scored again, after Toni Kroos' corner kick. Like this wasn't enough for Wolfsburg, Julian Draxler, man of the match in the first leg, was injured and replaced by Max Kruse. Towards the end of the first half, Wolfsburg played better even had some opportunities to score.
In the second half Zidane's side started pressing and dominating the game again. But Wolfsburg defended well, didn't leaving much space for Ronaldo or Bale. Still Real had a good chance to score by Sergio Ramos in the 66th minute, after a corner kick, his header beat the keeper but the ball only hit the right post.
