Tottenham missed the opportunity to increase pressure on Premier League leaders Leicester City as they managed only a draw with Liverpool at Anfield. The final result:
|LIV||1 - 1||TOT|
It was described as a cup final by Jurgen Klopp, and the German got it about right, because both sides came out and treated this game as a winner-takes-all. This produced an exciting, almost end-to-end contest, where the two sides took it in turn to create chances.
Keeper Hugo Lloris kept Spurs on level terms with fine saves from Sturridge and two from Adam Lallana in the first half. Liverpool opened the scoresheet by Philippe Coutinho's goal from Daniel Sturridge's pass, early in the second half(51th minute).
Harry Kane's superb finish after 63 minutes gave Spurs a point. But Tottenham had other chances also with Liverpool keeper Simon Mignolet saving well from Christian Eriksen and Mousa Dembele, while Son Heung-min should have done better than volley wide from Eric Dier's pass.
Tottenham lies in the 2nd place in Premier League with 62 points, 4 behind leader Leicester City, and 4 points ahead of 3rd placed Arsenal, while Liverpool lies in 9th place, hoping for a better season for next year.
