The game

Romania started better the game, having a good chance to open the score sheet after just 5 minutes. Steaua Bucharest's player Stanciu sent an excellent ball from a corner kick, but Pintili misses a big chance from point-blank range as he struck the ball low towards the middle of the goal. A fabulous save from Hugo Lloris.

France had the chance to score in the 15th minute, when he blew an opportunity from close range as he headed a rebound only to the right post.

Towards the end of the first half France tried to increase the pressure, but they were not able to create clear chances.

Surprisingly France didn't dominate the game as it was expected from the home side.

The second half started with the Romanians being more dangerous. But it was France who scored.

In the 57th minute, Dimitri Payet produced a beautiful cross into the box, where Olivier Giroud headed the ball into the left side of the goal and beyond the goalkeeper. 1-0 for France.

With the one goal advantage France seemed more confident, but not for long because in the 64th minute Patrice Evra made a foul inside the box and Romania received a penalty.

Bogdan Stancu easily converted the penalty with a beautiful low shot into the right side of the goal.

When only one minute was left from the game Payet fired a fantastic shot from outside of the box and it went in the back of the net.

This strike decided the match, and France won the opening game!
