Euro 2016 - Poland team profile

Poland qualified for the third consecutive time to the final tournament of European Championship. They will face Northern Ireland, Ukraine and Germany.

Brief History at the Euros

Poland qualified for the first time to a European Championship final tournament in 2008. They were placed in a group with Germany, Croatia and Austria.

In the first game they lost to Germany 2-0, then they draw with Austia 1-1 and lost again in the final game against Croatia, this ment they were eliminated from the competition.

Poland automatically qualified for the Euro 2012 as a host nation together with Ukraine. They were placed in a group with Czech Republic, Russia and Greece. In the opening game they draw with Greece 1-1, their second game against Russia ended with the same result (1-1).

Poland needed a win in order to qualify for the knockout stage, but they lost in the third game against Czech Republic and they left the competition early again.

Poland road to Euro 2016

Poland was part of group D along with Germany, Ireland, Scotland, Georgia and Girbraltar. They finished in the second place only one point behind first placed Germany.

Thanks to their second-placed finishing they achieved automatic qualification. They finished with 21 points winning six games, drawing three and losing one in their group.

Poland will play against Norther Ireland in the first round, the last times the two teams met were in the 2009 in the World Cup qualifiers Northern Ireland won the first game 3-2 then the two teams draw in the second game 1-1.

The second game will be against Germany. In the Euro qualifiers the teams were in the same group, Poland won in the first game 2-0 then lost in Germany 3-1. Poland only won one game against Germany in 20 matches.

Their third game will be with Ukraine. The last times the two teams met were in 2013 in the World Cup qualifiers and Ukraine won both games 3-1 and 1-0.
