Norther Ireland was part of group F along with Romania, Hungary, Finland, Faroe Islands and Greece. They finished first place only one point ahead of second place Romania.

Norther Ireland will play against Poland in the first round, the last times the two teams met were in the 2009 in the World Cup qualifiers Northern Ireland won the first game 3-2 then the two teams draw in the second game 1-1.

The second game will be against Ukraine. The last times the two teams met were in 2002 and 2003 in the Euro 2004 qualifiers and both games finished 0-0.

Their third game will be with Germany. The last time the two teams met was in 2005 in an international friendly and it finished 4-1 for Germany.
