Belgium have qualified for the first time for a final tournament of the European Championship after 2000 when they hosted the competition together with Netherlands. In the group stage they will face Italy, Republic of Ireland and Sweden.
Brief History at the Euros
The first time Belgium have qualified to a final tournament of the European Championship was in 1972, they had the chance to win the trophy in front of their home fans. In the semi-final they played against West Germany and they lost 2-1. For the third place they faced Hungary and they won 2-1, finishing third on home soil.
After missing the Euros in 1976 Belgium returned in 1980 and in the group stage their finished first in front of Italy, England and Spain, qualifying directly into the final of Euro 1976. They had to face Germany and thanks to a late goal Germany won the final 2-1.
Belgium Euro 1980
In 1984 Belgium was eliminated early after the group stage of the competition, finishing third in their group behind France and Denmark.
Since then the only other time Belgium achieved qualification to a final tournament was in 2000, when the competition was held by then and Netherlands together. But in the group stage they finished third behind Italy and Turkey and they were eliminated from the competition.
Belgium road to Euro 2016
Belgium was part of group B along with Wales, Bosnia, Israel, Cyprus and Andorra. They finished first place two points ahead of second placed Wales. They accumulated 23 points winning seven games, drawing two and losing one in their group.

Belgium will play against Italy in the first round, the last time the two teams met was in the 2015 in an international friendly and Belgium won 3-1.
The second game will be against Ireland. The last times the two teams met was back in 1997 in the World Cup qualifiers, one game finished draw 1-1 and the second game was won by Belgium 2-1.
Their third game will be with Sweden, the last time the two teams met was in the 2014 in an international friendly and Belgium won 2-0.
