Euro 2016 - Austria team profile

Austria have qualified for the second time in their history to a final tournament of the European Championship. In the group stage they will face Hungary, Iceland and Portugal.

Brief History at the Euros

Before Euro 2016 Austria have participated only once at a final tournament of the European Championship. This happened in 2008 when
Austria and Switzerland hosted Euros.

Austria was placed in a group with Croatia, Germany and Poland. They lost the first game against Croatia 0-1, then draw with Poland 1-1 and in the last game lost to Germany 0-1, which meant they were eliminated from the comeptition.

Austria road to Euro 2016

Austria was part of group G along with Sweden, Russia, Montenegro, Liechtenstein and Moldova. They finished first place eight points ahead of second place Russia. They finished with 28 points winning nine games and drawing one.

Thanks to their first-placed finishing they achieved automatic qualification.
